One of the questions we get asked on a regular basis is:
How does a bail bond work and why do I need one?
To put it simply, bail bonds are:
ARREST AND BOOKING PROCESS
The “booking” process at most Southern California jails takes place after a routine search, fingerprint, photograph, and check for outstanding warrants. Depending on how busy they are at the jail in question this can typically take anywhere from 45 minutes to a few hours to complete.
After booking there are 4 possible scenarios
- Police or DA decide not to file charges and are released. (Rare but happens occasionally)
- Bail is set by the court depending on charges and prior record. (Most common)
- No bail hold and the defendant must wait to see the judge before bailing. (Usually due to warrants)
- Released on own recognizance (OR) (Happens when jail is overcrowded the defendant is released without need for bail.)
